This was a bit of an oddity in my photographic world, which makes choosing my best photos of 2017 a bit peculiar as well.
I shot a lot less than previous years for a variety of reasons. 2018 should see the number of images swing back upward. Another big shift was doing so much more photography with my iPhone. And hence, I chose six of those images as notable for the year.
Why the big reduction in the number of images? This year saw a lot of my time being devoted to being President of the Oregon Professional Photographers Association, which cut into the number of events I photographed professionally as well as the amount of solo photography ventures on my own. I’ll be on the OPPA board again next year, but will have less firm commitments which should allow for more images to be made both professionally and personally. This past year also saw renewed focus on developing the business of Photowebo, my site that aims to help photographers with the Internet world, and while that was work in the photographic world, it wasn’t work that resulted in pretty images.
I don’t look at 2017 having been a year of photographic failure, but my accomplishments including earning my Photographic Craftsman degree from PPA, serving as the OPPA President, and earning a couple awards at our state image competition aren’t necessarily the most photogenic, or don’t reflect well in this sort of roundup. I suspect that a Best of 2018 post will be a bit more well-rounded than this Best Photos of 2017 post here.
